[Peacock Royal]

The Butterfly Hill was crowded with a group of photographers so these shots were taken along Sensory Trail. Didn’t encounter many pristine specimen to shoot .

Yup, that's a Coon all right. It can often be found at the end of the Sensory Trail towards the beach.

NPS outing lor... whole bunch of them out there.

Are you sure that this is the Coon? To me, it is far more likely to be The Forest Hopper, Astictoperus jama. The white forewing spots are anything but obscure (Coon).

Base on the C&P4 description for Forest Hopper, the 2nd segment of palpi is porrect , which I can't find in Federick's photo.... but personally I never seen a Forest Hopper before

Federick's Coon's shot seems consistent with Steven's shot taken long time ago.

We'll have to keep a lookout for these two species and observe them more carefully in future then. Can't be 100% sure from field shots like these, if there are lookalikes.

Better still if one of us is fortunate enough to locate the early stages to help us confirm.
