    Default Flamboyant cat

Found this interesting cat today. I think it is a moth cat, but not sure. Can you help. Foodplant provided for ID as well.

    Tinolius sp.

    Noctuidae, Catocalinae.

There are several species possible. Will go check which.

    cheers,

    Roger.

Thanks Roger, I await your deliberations.

Incedentally, is there a Catocala species or related genus, large, size of, say, Saturnia pyri, with hindwings of brown, with concentric rings, narrow white outside and bright red inside? Forewings had a very pointed apex. Saw one, wanted to get photo, but it would not let me.

    Thanks

Cancel my last request. During my Google search of Tinolius to see what the adults look like, I came across Phyllodes consobrina.

    looks good for T. hypsana.

very satisfying when you find something by accident - a real bonus!

    cheers,

    Roger.

Thank you Roger. Yes, I've seen the adult of T. hypsana here.

One last question. Having ID'd and seen pics of Phyllodes consobrina, I did my usual google search to try to find out more. Unfortunately, I could not find details of the range of this species, save for the fact that it seems to come from India, Sikkim to China. I know that it is found in the Chang Mai area, but is it also common further South, throughout the peninsular?
