Hi all, this is my maiden post to this relatively new forum and one that I've had to luck to know of by way of Green Baron. I'm a fish person but have always liked butterflies. Anyone knows what's that common little bluish butterfly that's almost everywhere in Singapore or used to be common when I was still a kid back in the 80's. Have always wondered what species it was. Will be looking forward to learning more about these fascinating creatures from the people here.

A question, does anyone have any good guidebook on these butterflies for recommendation? I'd like to get one. Have heard of the AH trail, may visit it later in the day.

Anyway, found this website while I was googling for a suitable avatar, here's the site.

    Hi Jianyang,

Welcome to this forum. The blue butterfly you see everywhere in Singapore is call Blue Pansy. http://images.google.com/images?q=tb...fly/pansy2.jpg
The blue butterfly you used for your arvata is a foreign butterfly and not Blue Pansy.

You can refer to the this link for butterfly guidebooks. A good start would be the BP 'A Guide to Common Butterflies of Singapore' by Steven Neo who is one of the founders of this forum !

First of all, thanks for the welcome Ben and thanks for the link Gan. Yes the butterfly in my avatar is a foreign butterfly. One of the Charaxes butterflies. I have no idea where this one comes from. Just found the picture to be very beautiful.

I think I saw the BP Guidebook for sale at Kinokuniya. May pop by sometime soon to get a copy. Haven't been buying the newer series of guidebooks from BP & the Science Centre.
