    Default Request for ID

These two Nawab shots were taken sometimes ago. Now that we have a chance of a new Nawab appearing in Singapore, would need Dr Seow to help ID these two Nawabs, thanks!

They are both P. moori. Correction the 1st is indeterminate , possibly P. hebe.

The band is wider than P. hebe, ie more than half the width of the HW upper margin (costa).

One was shot in Kent Ridge Park about ten years ago, although I don't know if the pix is still around.

    TL Seow : Cheers.
There is some variation in the width of the band in both spp. Will need to check further.

This is far more difficult than can be imagined.
There are a lot variations between the 2 species & intermediates.

    Typical P. moori .
Band wide , upper end more strongly indented, outer margin ( FW ) excavated or angular at the veins.

    Typical P. hebe.
Band narrower , upper end usually rounded & outer margin (FW ) straight.

    Liew's blog showing the two.

    Less typical example.
    Male P. moori.Langkawi.
FW band rounded but outer margin angled at vein 2 instead of running straight down.(same as Liew's 19 Dec 2013 pix).

Pix 1 could be P. moori . The wingshape is distorted ,appearing narrower & so too the band.
The indentation at the top & the angualtion at vein 2 of the outer margin suggest this.

This one from Kent Ridge Park 2007 appeared to be P. hebe with broad band.
The band is rounded at the top & the outer margin is straight.

As an aside note there is some doubt regarding the record of P. jalysus on P. Ubin
Although the band appeared very wide it is notched at the top & on the HW at the side as in P. moori.

There is not a single pix of P. jalysus on the web showing the band being notched at both places.

PS. I am fairly convinced pix 1 should be P. moori after all.
