    Default Malaysian Butterflies

Just came back from vacation in Malaysia - Melaka, PJ and KL.

The Melaka butterfly park was a disappointment There were a few exotic species but overall very few species. The baits were all behind the fence and there were very few flowers so most of butts stayed at the corner of the cage.

KL butterfly park on the other hand was fantastic ! There were lots of butterflies in the park - RBB, Malaysia Birdwings, Tirumala, Com Rose, many Crow spp, Tree Nymphs, Orange Albatross, Choc albatross, Malayan Owl, Kalima and many big Morpinae spp. Unlike the Melaka park, the KL park is very well layout and landscaped, and butterflies can be seen feeding on flowers and bait stations. I was there on Monday so there were very few visitors and I had the place all to myself

This place is as good as the Penang butterfly park ! Highly recommended for anyone visiting KL.

I also visit Gasing Hill at PJ. This used to be Simon Chan's hunting ground and is one of the few places where you can find many Striped Ringlet, a very beautiful small brown butterfly.

I also found a breeding population of Acraea violae (AV) in a back lane near my in-law's place in PJ. There were lots of AV cats feeding on its host plant, Passiflora suberosa. I counted 10 cats, 3 pupae and 8 adults in that area !

Enough said. Will post my photos once I catch up with my emails !

Nice shot of the Striped Ringlet (Ragadia makuta siponta). The scientific name that you quoted is of the montane Zebra Ringlet.

Long time haven't seen the Common Bush Brown (#4). The last time we encountered one was at Bunker Trail.

the striped ringlet is stunning -- especially with the metallic "eye-ball" in the ringlets.
