Blue Jay's butterflies Dec 2011/2012

Brian,
Nice photos. I really like the lacewing shots. They are such beauties.
The distribution of the pea blue amazes me. I saw those in Italy and then more recently in the Blue Mountains of Australia. They certainly are adaptable!
Regards,

Thanks Jonathan! I think I will be using the Canon Powershot S95 most of the time from now onwards. However, this is not the best of this camera yet. And I would like to know what is the dof you were talking about?:hmmm:
-
DOF means "depth of field". Do a google search and you should find lots of information. Wiki has a good explanation. It's what makes a pile of leaves behind a butterfly turn into a creamy green backdrop in our shots. :grin2:

Brian boy, I like the Common Bluebottle
-
Nice job!
Glad you had a good day. Enjoy the weather! William

Skipper 1 is the Small Branded Swift (Pelopidas mathias). Typical spotting; dark grey shading.
Skipper 2 has a brand or male-mark, the slanting line on its forewing.
It should be another Small Branded Swift.
But, do you remember its size, Brian ? If it is large, like the size of a Coconut skipper, than you have a new species, Caltoris brunnea (Dark Branded Swift).

Here is a belated reply, Brian.
Your Potanthus is a tricky one.
Of the 3 subapical (just below the apex or tip) spots the one near the margin is rather short.
However, the veins are more or less darkened and I would leave it as the Lesser Dart.(P. omaha)
Do you have an underside shot of this ?
Post 34 is the Chocolate Demon.
