Imperfect butts and shots at SF on 22Aug

I second Jason's comments. We're more of a group of enthusiasts who try to capture various species of butterflies in their natural environment, without capturing/killing them. If a shot is "photographically perfect" then that's a bonus for us. The primary aim of ButterflyPals is not about photography first and butts second. It's the other way around. ;P

Anyway, I think Federick's referring to the tattered condition of the butts he shot today, rather than his photography, when he referred to "imperfect"? :-)

imperfect is one of many things of nature ;P

yeah, getting good shots is a bonus.. sometimes, composition, nice smooth backgrd is very difficult to achieve in the field

yeah... to achieve that.. think u need a helper to hold your favorite backgrd each time u shoot... then maybe you also need to carry a few studio lights to get the right exposure :bsmile:

OT: My Five Bar didn't turn out as well as I expected, dosen't stand out from the background at all. Heh. Maybe I process with too much contrast. I notice your shots which you process with less contrast tend to have the butt stand out from the background more than mine. A point to consider when I post-processing in the future. I just love having lots of contrast, heh.

One day when I can get a nice Five Bar picture... maybe will change nick then if Admin's allow. Heh heh heh. :blah:

Main problem we face, I feel, is in the forest undergrowth, too many background leaves/brances and whatever you have hanging down when you can get background lighting. If no background lighting, then everything is black, also not nice. Either way it's hard.

For urban species like those which can be found at AH, easier to get nice backgrounds, but those at Sime and USR, very hard.

Maybe you should consider an Aussie butt, since you'll be there for some time. Look for a nice one, then shoot it and make it your nick! :cheers:

I have been trying to look for reference sites online like yours, of Aussie butts, but not much luck. Any to recommend?

Simon: I realise another reason why my Five Bar not as nice as yours, because I was shooting at a slightly different angle, and the soil in my background had lots of black in it. :broken:

OT: kekekeee.. cut and paste onto your fav. background :bsmile: but at least yr DOF is nice...

I second the objective of this forum.
The "imperfect" refers to the tattered conditions. The "imperfect shot" I refer to is the Abisara shot. Photographically I am satisfied with the other shots though some areas need improvement. My main objective of shooting butts is to understand butts/nature better and the thrill in looking for and chasing butts and of course the B-Pals frendship and outings also. Agree that, good photos will be a big bonus to me.
