Chiang Dao, (Northern Thailand) March 2015

We spent 2 or 3 days shooting at Chiang Dao.
Let me begin with some shots.

1.C. lohita.
In seliga the black tornal spot is red-rimmed on the inside margin but this is often folded over.
In addition, the male has the marginal areas sullied, & the HW submarginal band reaching the costa.

2. H.eventa. FW cross band rather irregular & colour dingier.

The sundainian form in peninsular Thailand & Sundaland are separated as D. gobrias.

Fed, where did you photograph the Heliophorus species? H. eventa is only known in Thailand from the extreme top of Doi Pha Hom Pok, though it is expected to be found at the extreme top of Doi Lang as well.

This one, from the top of Doi Pha Hom Pok, should be H. evanta, but upperside is the only safe difference

Admittedly an upperside is needed for confirmation, but this pix has a good probability to be H. eventa.
Yutaka's male captured near the same area show two similar features.
1 The FW band is strongly undulate.
2. The HW red band's inner margin is less crenulate ,sullied & with the white lunules mostly obsolete.

There are examples of H. brahma mogoka which look similar.
Below one which the FW band is slightly undulate & the HW band better defined.

Post 4, Antonio pix is more typically H. brahma mogoka.
In the 3rd similar species H. androcles all valid examples with upper confirmation has the FW band nearer the cellend though this is unlikely to be absolute.

(This gets very confusing : The website below shows androcles with extensive blue sheen, long HW red band, & underside FW band midway.)

I 'm not sure of the underside of H. hybrida.
Tytler described the upperside as brassy green & the HW red band narrower than in brahma.
He suggest a possible hybrid of brahma & androcles.

It would look like the FW band's undulation is a red herring.

Then this observation is probably correct: The HW postdiscal band is strongly undulate in eventa & usually straight in brahma.
