It was glorious weather all the way, with no rain at all (and a little passing shower, which doesn't count) ;P

Lots of common butts and really abundant. Everyone made it home safely and let's have the posts rolling! :gbounce:

Awesome trip.

Thank you sunny & the organizing committee for an excellent well planned trip. We were indeed fortunate to have electricity all night long! and the 4:30pm Char Kuew Teow kept us alive all the way back to SG while we brave the massive traffic jam which was cause by 4 cones placed on the emergency lane of the highway :bsmile: :bsmile: oops, have I not mentioned the miricle healing properties from the jungle, 3 hours of deep jungle walk, cured all my funky heat rash :p

Thanks Khew, for driving us to / from. The drive was so comfortable i fell asleep the moment we left camp :p

Irene's cooking kept me going for 2nd and 3rds and kept us all energized throughout the entire trip.

Les, you helped me ID-ed so many butterflies & dragonflies & damselflies as well as gave us keywords like RARE, uncommon hahaha that kept us going in for more and more :p

Nelson was the Nikon Emergency support centre, with the lens loanage to keep my shooting going on.

Side note : Nikon D3s failed in Endau Rompin. I think he went out at night went for a swim in the river and forgotten to dry itself. It will make a trip to the service centre hopefully tomorrow. So next year's participants may consider deferring from bringing the Nikon D4 :p hahaha

A great outing with precise coordination and planning to make it an effortless ER experience for newbies as well as the more seasoned veterans. Thanks Sunny and Khew for the effort and time spent on ensuring that all is well taken care of.

Need to reiterate that the food is nothing short of amazing, excellent food followed by big appetite. Thanks Irene for your 5 star culinary skills that provided us 3 hotel meals a day.

Fantastic company provides the icing on the cake, where all are sharing their experiences and knowledge about the various aspects of insect’s behavior and identification.

Kudos to all who had contributed in making this a fantastic trip. This definitely
deserve a AAA grading. :thank_you

Glad that all enjoy the trip! It was indeed a wonderful trip with great company . Irene was most delighted in contributing towards the trip by feeding the hungry shooters. :)

The weather was very kind, though not as many butterflies as my previous trips, nevertheless it gave the first timers a taste of what Selai can offer. Kurt got his Lantern Bug and others got their Malay Red Harlequin and a few other rarities.

The recent dry spell must have its effect as there were relatively few leeches as well , except two that found lucky Les.:bsmile:

Some snapshots of the trip.

1. Meeting up at Bekok

2. No fruit? Ah Lim : No Problem we go find some!

3 Arhh ! Here is a ripe Honey melon.

4. Need any help!

6 Nothing is gonna stop us to Lubuk Tapah!

7.Butt conference

8 LP and Bobby

9 Inviting 4x4 to run over us!:bsmile:

Poison are priced differently !;P Some can afford some cannot :bsmile: !

There is no such thing as noiseless lah, we are not there yet on digital sensors.

If you have sharp eyes , you can still make out noise on those Khew taken at ISO 1250 . The Orange Tail Awl shot taken at ISO 2500 is very impressive and the best of the lot with some discernible noise and dust spot.;P

Ellen, your photos of the Malayan Albatross are actually either Appias albina or Appias paulina. They are sometimes quite difficult to tell apart, depending on the form of A. albina, which can be quite variable. There was a Malayan Albatross around, but your shots are not of that species.

I am very envious of your shots of the Malayan Zebra, particularly the upperside, which I have not managed yet.

I agree with you about the ID of the Terinos clarissa shots. There were quite a few about. They are larger than the more common T. terpander.

The Appias shots have to be carefully studied and sorted out. C&P4 doesn't show all the species' M/F and upper/underside shots. So we may not have the full reference material to distinguish them. As Les also said, there are various 'forms' amongst them as well, to add to the confusion.

But definitely not as difficult as the Jamides, Nacaduba and Arhopala. ;P

thanks. Guess i will have to kiv the appias shots until i can find more references. I didnt get their upperside shots so i guess that will make it even harder still...

Nelson, fantastic photos. I love the Malay Red Harlequin upperside.

The shot beneath that is Coelites epiminthea epiminthea (Straight-Banded Catseye) . I caught a fleeting glimpse of it, but no photo.

The next is a Mycalesis species, either M. anapita or M. patiana. Not having seen the live specimen, I can not tell which.

The Faun species is Faunis gracilis (Narrow Striped Faun). Incedentally, I believe someone has managed a photo of Faunis kirata (Broad-Striped Faun), please post it!

As for the Jamides species, I'll leave that for one of Jamides fans to solve, I am having enough trouble with the Arhopala species I got.:mad2:   :bsmile:

This Jamides specimen could be Jamides virgulatus. Besides the large yellow tornal area in the hindwing stretching into space 5 (and obliterating the postdiscal white striae in spaces 3 and 4 in doing so), the basal striae in the hindwing is more or less lined up as well. Both features are ID keys for J. virgulatus. :grin2:

The mysterious Jamides sp. found by Ellen in Western part of Singapore does not have the basal striae lined up as seen consistently in the three specimen shots posted by Ellen and Nelson. Oh, BTW, those cats and eggs I found at that location all pupated with all of them turned "bad" and none managed to eclose. :-(

3) Lotongus calathus calathus (White tipped Palmer) - it never got used to the flash!
4) Rachana jalindra burbona (Banded Royal) - male (very distant and heavily cropped shot, so just for record purposes).
5) Allotinus horsfieldi permangus (Common Darkie) - a large species
6) I need help with this one. I know that Terinos clarissa malayana (Malayan Assyrian) was present, but this one appears to have a much less ornate underside, could it possibly be Terinos adita teuthras (Large Assyrian)- female? Awful photo, but needs to be shown for ID.

Concur with the above. One thing, your labelling of Caleta elna is wrong. It should be Caleta roxus pothus (Straight Pierrot). I'll let someone else have a go at the IDs of the ones without labels.:)

1st shot appears to be the Discolampa ethion thalimar (Blue Pierrot). Recalled Les talking about it from last years trip.

Read the ID key in C&P4, look at the details of the submarginal lines (particularly the grey ones) and tell us. :)
