Let's start a thread here so that everyone can post what they've shot and recorded for the Semakau outing today.

From my own notes, we have added 6 more species to the Semakau checklist! (http://www.butterflycircle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9612) :jumjoy:

The 6 are :
King Crow
Spotted Black Crow
Indian Cupid
Gram Blue
Pea Blue
Pygmy Grass Blue

It seems that Pea Blue is not in the checklist for Semakau.
Here is a record shot of this species taken today in the open grassland.

Thanks, Horace. I was also wondering. Looks like all the Lycaenidae that feed on that 3-leafed creeper are already there on Semakau now.

One more for the checklist.

Didn't have many opportunities to take butt shots today.
Two orange skippers from me.
1. Looks like Telicota colon stinga (Common Palm Dart) ?
2. ?

Commander

Quite a few Common Palm Darts around this morning. I believe Sunny's shot may have been of the female of this species.

Here are a few more shots of the Common Palm Dart, with one cropped shot showing the upperside.

And a shot of a Three Spot Grass Yellow, which seems to be the only "Yellow" fluttering around. All of my catch-and-release subjects were Three Spot Grass Yellow.

Your shots of the 2SLB might look better if in portrait .

Took the liberty of rotating and straightening the stem .;P

How do they look?

Ellen,

Most people de-noise their shots, even top end cameras at high ISO will need some denoising to clean up the pic.

If you are looking for noiselessness in new camera at high ISO... we are not there as yet.

Yupp, i was contemplating on rotating the image too, but after looking at it for a while, i think the curley passiflora vine with the 2 butts mating on it looks a tad bit untural as the stem looks as if it could balance the weight of all that.

However, in lokes picture, the rotation looks better, perhaps of the thicker looking vine, it kinda looks thinner in my shot even though its the same vine.

I prefer the portrait one too mainly because the butterfly at the bottom (in landscape mode) looks non-parallel probably due to parallax error introduces by the vein/line running across the wing :bsmile:

I notice the color of my shot is cooler (blue incline) and Ant's one is warmer. Cher Hern, you have shot the same butt, do you mind post yours for comparison? Thanks

uncle sunny, the photo is already denoised in pro editor n photo shop. Dunno what else to do.

Ellen,

The pro editor one not very good.... try Noise Ninja (http://www.picturecode.com/) , Dfine 2.0 (http://www.niksoftware.com/dfine/usa/entry.php) or PhotokitSharpener (http://www.pixelgenius.com/sharpener/index.html).

Ellen,

Here is a 30 seconds de-noise routine using screen capture of your image.

1. Your original as posted

2. De-noised with Dfine 2.0 ( 15 secs)

3 Touch up using Smoothing Brush of PhotokitSharpener. ( 15 secs)

4 A bit of touch up to make it looks better. (cloning off blemishes 30 sec)

All in a minute to make it looks like it's taken from a 1D3 at ISO 1250 . ;P

This orientation is better......maybe it is just me!

Firstly it present the couple on even footing and you can feel the tension in their arched abdomen better in this orientation . The coiled tendril in this orientation also reinforces the tension of the arched abdomen.
