Stumbled on a mating pair this morning whilst chasing some Great Helens. Unfortunately, they were startled and separated. The female was rather tattered and remained in the shade, whilst the male was slightly more cooperative.

Wouldn't have been able to ID the male from a field shot like this, if they were not in the same place. From C&P4, the male is brown upper and underside. No markings at all. ;P

The host plant, a palm, similar to the one that Horace and Ben Jin bred before, was in the vicinity.

Just adding some record shots of the male and female of this species.

Thanks, Khew for posting the male pic. :)
It is possible that many of us had shot the male before without knowing that it is QMM.

You're right... and if I didn't see the two together, the shot may have just ended in my brown UFO folder! :bsmile:

Wah, quite impossible to distinguish the male from many of the brown skipper species.

Heh... you actually shot the female yourself on your outing last week, without realising it! Congrats! See your blog posting (http://peacockroyal.blogspot.com/2010/02/very-dry-mnt.html?showComment=1267411842683_AIe9_BETy8SDpbQ QdZPpzpp3j5O-AAfatj-rEzhCjdQmLxLVVJtAubDDUPaI0ZsrCDwCac4RueT1K10cAaVNn oD2p3bZrsA7y3trSMMrMld5v9pjaPlteY2Z4DCfKVHonhxfcSL HOB9pNZBsMHdvo4nh2xs3x6Nhdm0aUrjoqbcYxPW2XZzxNlaFg ZvlOTgQJlxYoyceci1O0bqQ3w7pcbMXZiZ7WMbyS-7qf1WiGsTWWfCOdIq01aM#c8679331076476980072).

The male looks the same as Ancistroides nigrita maura except for its size & shape of the wings. Any others ?
