In C&P4, Col Eliot recorded (see page 135) that in some individuals of the Common Five Ring, there is sometimes an additional small ocellus in space 4, giving it a total of 6 rings. But these are uncommon occurrences, and so far, I've only encountered one before.
This "aberrant" specimen of a Common Three Ring (Ypthima pandocus corticaria), also displays an additional yellow-ringed ocellus on its hindwing, giving this Common Three Ring four rings instead of the usual three.
I suppose there are such aberrations in nature, and sometimes they are noticed, just by chance or luck. ;P
