Caught this sequence on trigger-happy-mode on the 1D3, as the Straight Judy took off , at ISO400 F/8 1/160s , Flashed, Handheld

shutter speed of 1/160 s is meaningless, as the effective shutter speed was the duration of the flash at approx. 1 /10,000 sec.

from the sequence of photos, it seems that the butt takes off by using it's legs for a leap before the flapping of the wings takes over?
