Post your shots here, for the BC team that visited Semakau today. :)

There a few skipper additions, as the team for Saturday has also similarly observed.

Interestingly, the Palm Bobs on Semakau have more than the usual 3 black spots on the hindwing below. I found 4-5 individuals having a full set of up to 5 black spots! I wonder if this can qualify as a new subspecies...

Besides that, I was also chasing what appears to be a Banded Demon. A long-range heavily cropped shot suggests that it's most likely a Banded Demon. Also taken was a skipper that looks very similar to the newly discovered Potanthus serina. Will update this later with more confirmation.

The Two Spotted Line Blues were in season, and I believe quite a few of us, including Jane with her "handicapped" Pentax MF lens also nailed one. :bsmile:

SK, I have seen specimens with both 3 hindwing black spots and 5 in the same place! I do not believe that it is a new ssp.

1. Tanaecia iapis puseda (Horsfield's Baron) ? or Euthalia aconthea gurda (Baron) ? - to be confirmed.
2. Arhopala centaur nakula (Centaur Oakblue)
3. The upperside is quite close to that kind of blue shown by Jamides bochus nabonassar (Dark Caerulean) - Do look out for this in the forested area if we are there again. Qute a few of them today after 1 pm.

Hmm.. interesting, that Baron. Looks like a female Baron (Euthalia aconthea gurda), but can't be sure at this angle and the lighting makes it strange.

Female Baron (Euthalia aconthea gurda), my guess after looking at it for awhile.

The female tanaecia iapis puseda got a very white border regardless view from upper or underside which is my observation in the field.

Can't be sure thou.

The lycaenid specimen in your pic #3 looks like a Nacaduba sp. in the 6-line blue group, and it appears that it was trying to lay egg. Any idea what plant was it sighted on?

I suppose the blue you are referring to is the metalic blue. Which Nacaduba is it?

The plant looks like Ardisia sp., if correct then I most likely a N. calauria, quite similar to my previous record  (not from semakau)

One of my shots on Sunday...correct me if I am wrong, an Eurema andersonii andersonii?

Commander
20-Jan-2009, 09:18 AM
The characteristic cell spots are covered, so we can't be sure about that, though most of the yellows that we've encountered at Semakau have been the Common Grass Yellow (E. hecabe)

Ken, seems like you do shoot very well for someone who just started. I'm impress.

Who's the master?

Khew, does that mean using Nikon is suffering since it's the dark side?
