Weather: Partly cloudy, very windy but not so hot.

12:30pm - 2pm: A lot of common tiger will rest in the shade out in the the grassland. Also sighted a leopard lacewing, but gotta go by then.

Common Tiger and striped albatross (+1!) lol

Nice tiger shots Wong and you even have two different forms on one pic, that's rare

Here is my share - Two spotted line blue (2SLB), it is plentiful there, Team B don't come back without it okie :bsmile:

Also on small blue which can't ID it confidently, any ID suggestion?

Could it be a worn copy of Forget-me-not or Silver Forget-me-not?

Guys from the Saturday team outing at Semakau, please post whatever shots (doesn't need to be sharp or with nice background. Heavily cropped also can) that you have of the following species :

Ciliate Blue
Common Tit
Common Awl

Thanks Horace and Sunny. That was my initial suspect but was not sure as the second orange marking below the tail was missing. But that could be just due to wear and tear.

So another +1 for Semakau

I'm quite hesitate to lable the "Common Tit" initially especially previous record is HTT, but I noted the hindwing orange toner area only restricted to the upper black spot (and small area around it), this is the characteristic observed in all the photos of Common Tit (http://www.sgbug.org/butterflies/spc_photo.php?spc_id=190&img_list_id=317) in the photo checklist.

As for HTT, the orange area is much bigger & wider in size as shown in the photos here (http://www.sgbug.org/butterflies/spc_photo.php?spc_id=189&img_list_id=14).

Ok, thanks for the confirmation. If you read my post here (http://butterflycircle.com/forums/showpost.php?p=77405&postcount=1). We did shoot a species whose markings are consistent with Potanthus serina.

Also, if you had read my post here (http://butterflycircle.com/forums/showpost.php?p=76502&postcount=1), Potanthus hetaerus serina has been updated to Potanthus serina by Col Eliot and Dr Kirton in the C&P4 Update.

Ok, after comparing specimens of both species, I agree with SC that what he's shot is a Common Tit (the orange variety). The characteristics that are consistent for ID are not the hindwing tornal area.

If you compare enough shots, the most prominent ID characteristic to separate the two species is an extra orange bar at the hindwing area that HTT has.

Even though SC's specimen is a bit worn-out, it is quite clear that it does not have that extra orange bar. So it's a Common Tit and a +1 for Semakau. :jumjoy:

Added a sample photo (HTT shot courtesy of Sunny) to help everyone understand and ID future shots of these two species. At least they are a lot easier to separate than many of our Arhopala or Potanthus lookalikes... ;P
