Just wondering what this is, from my vague memory of photos shown here and elsewhere it resembles a tawny coaster. There were lots of them at the place I unexpectedly ended up at today. Unfortunately all I have is a poor video (took pics with my Nikon D70 but have to find my cable before I can upload :bsmile: )

John,

Yes! It is our "new citizen" the Acraea violae (Tawny Coster).First recorded in Punggol area in Sept 2006, the species has since spread to many other parts of Singapore.

It shares the same hostplant Passiflora foetida with the other "new citizen" the Cethosia cyane (Leopard Lacewing) which also arrive around beginning of 2006 and has also established itself on the island .

Hi Sunny,

thanks for the info! Time flies, it seemed like almost only yesterday that there was talk of its introduction to Singapore, so I was surprised to see so many of them at a coastal area near Changi!
