Dr Seow,

Request ID help for this taken at USR , Singapore.

I have only one upperside shot and underside markings looked not darker than the ground colour. Upperside has a border .

Could this be atosia malayana or pseudomuta or something else?

Is it feasible to ID with upperview shot ?

Thanks
Ramesh

It is almost impossible to ID based on the upperside alone except in a few cases like A. metamuta which have contrasting FW/HW colour.

Colour change very much in photos.

If you know it is large then you can narrow it down to 4 species in Singapore, A. centaurus, silhetensis, athada & aedias.
Then it would be A. athada as this have a broader brown border, the others have it a thread.

A. athada is common in Singapore & so it is likely to be this species.

A. atosia have the FW border a thread & a circular disc of specialised scales.

A. pseudomuta have the FW border narrower.
