ID requested for Jamides species

GREETINGS FROM INDIA!!

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am sending herewith one Jamides sp. (I guessed its a Jamides caeruleus) for identification purpose. Species image captured from Jayanti river, West Bengal, India (North-East region) in the month of April 2018. I observed some points in below:

1. UNF postdiscal bands incompetely dislocated inwards at space 3.
2. UNH 2nd striae in space 7 much nearer to the 3rd striae within cell area.
3. UPF black border widening towards apex. Almost sky blue in color.

Jamides elpis.

The two species are frequently confused.
Some examples seen may be hybrids.


J. elpis; FW postdiscal band dislocated & the lowest stria usually attached to the inner end of band.
White striae not blue-tinted.
HW striae out of alignment; 2nd stria in space 7 nearer 2nd stria in cell.
UpF lighter pale blue.

J. caeruleus. ;FW postdiscal band dislocated ,the lowest stria often hangs free in the middle of the band.
Male FW the striae in lower part blue-tinted.
UnH male darkish, striae very thin & straight ,2nd stria in space 7 nearer or aligned with 3rd stria in cell.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your valued response. In this context, I would like to say YES, both species exact identification is some difficulty. I have checked all the type specimens and have seen there all lots of variation (especially for Jamides caeruleus). Butterflies of Malay Peninsula, Part I also mentioned for Jamides caeruleus - UnH with the 2nd stria from the base in space 7 in line with the 3rd stria from the base in the cell OR at least nearer to this stria than the second cell stria (exactly matched with my specimen)as like your comments. FW Post discal band also dislocated at vein 3. You are requested to recheck my specimen. For your information, Jamides caeruleus also recorded adjacent locations from my site. Indian most experts also go with Jamides caeruleus for it.

I have to go with J. elpis.

In addition to what is stated, the upperside is briliantly blue in J. caeruleus not this colour.
Also FW postdiscal white streak in space 3 is not free hanging as in J. caeruleus.

Rajib you're welcome to disagree with any id you're given here but "you are requested to re-check the specimen"? Nobody here is requested to recheck your specimen. Look, as you said, and I'm in no position to doubt, that you've literally checked the type specimens - so there really isn't any discussion left to have.

For the record, I agree with Seow. The dorsal speaks for itself anyway.
