In a very dark part of the forest I spotted this Zela that at first sight looks like Zela zeus, but I think could be instead Zela elioti.

You definitely have Z. elioti.
I have the journal with the article in it, but it is difficult to use to compare field shots & many of the museum specimens are of poor quality.

Simply put.

Z. zeus ;FW spots in cell, space 2, 3 & 6. UnH cellend mark prominent.

Z. zeus ;Male with stigma ;Wings unmarked , very dark.
Sumatra Thailand, Malaya ,Borneo.

Z. smaragdina; Body hair green Wings unmarked ;Antennal club white above; Abdomen underside partly yellow.
P.Thailand, Malaya, Borneo.

Z. elioti ;Male with stigma ;FW with spot 3; UnH cellend mark prominent ;black shading distad.

Z. cowani; male without stigma; Wings unmarked ;UnH with cellend mark. Sumatra, Malaya Borneo.

Z. zenon; Male without stigma; FW with spots 2 & 3 ;UnH with cellend mark. Sumatra ,Malaya & Borneo.

Z. storeyi ; male without stigma; FW with spot 3 ;UnH cellend poor/absent, no black shading. Malaya ,Borneo.
