Thanks to Antonio for bringing me around for hunting/shooting butterflies from 10 - 16 Oct.
This is my fourth trip with Antonio. Generally, the weather was reasonably good on most of the days but the number of butterflies and species we have seen in certain locations were not promising at all this year.

I will be posting most of my shots here in the forum and update my blog later - I believe that the forum is much better than FB for deeper learning, documenting and discussion.

Let me begin with some common species that are "problematic" for me to identify them with confidence.
Feel free to correct me if there is a wrong id as I didn't and will not go through a very thorough check for the ids.

Uncle Federick, these are lovely shots!

Trying to ID any of these similar "hedge-blue" species would leave me completely stumped, so (sometimes) I'm glad we only have one species in Singapore! :bsmile:

4 is Celastrina lavendularis.

U. albocaerulea is whiter & lacks the submarginal lunules.

6. Prosotas bhutea.

The two are very similar. However, if the FW is raised high enough there is no band below the midcell bar in P. bhutea.
In P. pia the mid cell bar continue down into space 1b.

no. 12 Choaspes benjaminii

The 3 short-tailed Choaspes are almost impossible to separate from the underside.

Choaspes benjaminii has smaller black spots (much so in Malaya) & the orange space inner & outer black marks are wide.
http://dearlep.tw/images/Papilionoidea/Hesperiidae/%E5%A4%A7%E7%B6%A0%E5%BC%84%E8%9D%B6_DSC_0036.jpg

Choaspes xanthopogon. The orange space between the inner & outer black marks are narrow.

Taiwan has only C. xanthopogon & benjaminii. In C xanthopogon the large 'spot' may be upturned at the end as here.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8002/7581299196_9561f90ca3_b.jpg

C. furcatus Practically identical to C. xanthopogon but large s'spot' always curved up ;in space 3 inner spot is 3X smaller than outer one; orange spacing typically wide.

C. cameroni; Band wider deeper orange ,lower end nearer the tornus.

28 Halpe zema. The HW band is clearly defined at the top & does not reach the upper margin.

In Halpe zola the band becomes diffuse & reach the margin by extented white shadings.

31 a & b are P. stramineipennis.

32. The fresh female on the left shows the deeply excavated outer margins of the HW band indicating it is likely P. mingo

In K. sindu the palpi 3rd segment is short vs. long & tapering in K. rubecula.
