Two images (different individuals) taken high altitude on Doi Lang, northern Thailand. Both provisionally identified as Evans's Fivering Y. evansi. But confusion with Great Fivering Y. dohertyi always possible, though to my knowledge dohertyi never collected in the Doi Pha Hom Pok/Lang area. Comments appreciated.

Many thanks
dave

The Ypthimas are even more daunting to ID.
Y. evansi ,named by Eliot in 1967 is little known, the type location being in the Shan state, Myanmar.

Uemura in his treatment of Ypthimas of Vietnam provides some little clues.

Y. evansi: Striation fine & dense ; UpHW usually without spot 5; smaller FW < 25mm.
Y. dohertyi :Striations comparatively coarse; UpHW usually with a spot 5; larger FW > 25mm.

The example shown have small well separated spots.the striation difficult to judge.

Y. evansi is very rare & Y. doheetyi is rather common.

Y. dohertyi dohertyi tend to have larger conjoined spots but not always, dsf & intermediates have well separated spots.
The other Y. dohertyi mossmani havecsmaller separated spots.

Examples of Y. dohertyi.

This pix below is probably Y. dohertyi as Uemura shows an image that is similar.

The fine & dense striation should be something like this Y. philomela..

I think both your pix are Y. dohertyi dohertyi.

TL Seow: Cheers.

Thanks for that. My own gut feel was that there was something wrong for this being Evans's. But I should think Doi Lang would be the best place to look as right on Shan state border. Surprisingly two Thai records from father south.
