The first ones I think I have managed to ID, but would like to be sure:

Male & female Athyma cama cama are correct.

The male is very similar to A. zeroca but the the abdomen has a white band .

The female A. cama is very similar to the female of A. nefte asta but the bands are narrower & the underside bands well-defined.

http://yutaka.it-n.jp/lim1/720580010.html

A. selenophora is right.

Pantoporia paraka paraka is right.

The 2nd pix , the underside is that of P. hordonia/sandaka.
The upperside grey submarginal bnad is wide (wider than the orange band) indicating it is Pantoporia hordonia hordonia. orange marginal shading indicate dsf.

P. hordonia grey submarginal band broad, wider than orange band, & not broken or constricted.
Male wsf & dsf.

I usually get the Neptis wrong, but I keep trying... For this one my own idea is Neptis sankara

No help for the first Neptis? Here is one more my guess goes to N. ananta or N. namba - hope is one of those at least...

Post 5.

Neptis sankara is right; N. sankara have a small white spot below the cross-ban of spots, where the sharp end of th FW cell bar is pointing.
http://yutaka.it-n.jp/lim1/720270010.html

Post 6.

Neptis ananta.
The FW markings are that of N. ananta ie subapical crossband, & cell-bar; The HW main band is always broader.

Not so straight forward to count legs as I thought, but there seem to be 6, so this one must be Papilio agestor ssp. agestor, right?

It also fits that there seem to be two spots in the outer row for each in the inner row along forewing margin in Parantica sita, while here there are an equal amount in the two rows :-)

All Papilionids are readily recognised by their upturned antennal clubs, large eyes , & 'invisible' palps (palpi).
These features are unique.

Thx a lot Seow - visualising the marks, I think I knew the features you mention from experience, but I did not know, that they were definite ID pointers, so thx a lot for these tips :)

And I got 1½ Neptis right! Hooray-hooray

Thx a lot Seow - you really are a man of admirable patience with us novices...

Here comes some more pics

First two Neptis that I think both have bent in FW submarginal spots, they do not look quite the same - one has substantially broader white band in hindwing, so maybe two different ones? Or two more N. soma?

I do find it interesting to try & figure out the IDs.
I dare say there were a lot of mistakes in the past.
Admittedly these black & white Neptis can drive one crazy but with time the picture start to clear up.
There are dsf & wsf which what makes them so variable.

To recap, the 3 with the FW submarginal spots bent in at the apex are.

1. N. capnodes pandoces ;FW apical sm spots large strongly bent in . ;HW band evenly wide.

2. N. soma shania ;FW apical sm spots strongly bent in; HW band widens upwards.
http://yutaka.it-n.jp/lim1/720180010.html

3. N. nata adipala.:FW apical sm spots slightly bent in ;HW band evenly wide.
http://yutaka.it-n.jp/lim1/720190010.html

The main ID point for N. soma ,the HW band widening upwards is hard to judge with the FWs down.
The spots in N soma are larger more distinct eg submarginal & HW outer row of spots.

1. Neptis soma.

2. Neptis soma ;Note the submarginal & HW outer spots are large.

3. Hypolimnas bolina jacintha is right.

4. Lethe confusa is right.
http://www.ifoundbutterflies.org/media_images/LetheConfusa/LetheConfusa_KrushnameghKunte_af911.jpg

5. Euripus nyctilius is right.

6.Meandrusa lachinus female is right . The upturn antennae are unmistakable for a papilionid.
I think the ssp is aribbas which have more white on the FW.

Thx again - lucky for me that you like it :-)

My subspecies designation for M. lachinus was purely based on the P. Ek-Amnuay book, where sukkiti is said to occur at Doi Lang/Doi Pha Hom Pok. In your links from Yutaka says that BOTH these subspecies occurs there. For me as biologist that is weird, there should not be two valid subspecies occurring sympatrically, as subspecies per definition are not reproductively isolated. Except for birds maybe, where one subspecies can occur as migrant in the range of another. Maybe it is a transition where some specimens show characters of one subspecies others of another?

There are many areas where valid subspecies occur in the same place but in mostly isolated colonies. There are always lots of intermediates though.
In southern Thailand continental & Sundanian subspecies meet when the Malay peninsula joins the mainland .( It was formerly part of land mass called Sundaland. ie + Sumatra, Borneo , Java etc.)
The subspecies designation can be at the whim of the author ,
A good example will be Lebadea martha.

All males only.

Yes - you are right. Different subspecies can occur in the same general area, if they are isolated on the very local scale as in your examples :-)

4 Ypthima as far as I can tell 3 Y. baldus and 1 Y. confusa. The 2 first presumed Y. baldus is the same worn individual.

Post 23.

The Ypthima are particularly difficult.

Agreed 1, 2, & are Y. baldus.
Underside ground colour pale yellowish (buff).
HW with a pair of curved dark fascia.
Hw spot 6 always smaller than spot 5.
http://www.butterflycircle.com/checklist/mugshots/Ypthima%20baldus%20newboldi/CFR_mating_pair_Bobby.jpg

2 other very similar species.

Y singorensis : HW dark fascia somewhat straighter in alignment.
http://www.ksl-auction.com/auction.cgi?acc=disp&no=1429614988&t=1346208213

Y. nebulosa. Ground colour whiter & more contrasting. FW ocellus rounded vs oval in the other two.
http://www.samuibutterflies.com/02_images/linkbuttons/butterflies/satyrinae/ypthimasingorensis/underside.jpg

4 may be Y. watsoni. HW tornal two spots larger & touching.
http://www.samuibutterflies.com/02_images/travels/satyrinae/ypthimawatsoniwatsoni.v.jpg Image is actually Y. confusa.

Y. confusa.

4 is probably right as Y. confusa.

Reading the original description doesnt help.
There are dsf & wsf so ocelli size varies.
Correct images of Y. confusa are darker.

Y. watsoni.

These images should be correct.
Y. watsoni ID Correction: Y..confusa : HW spot 6 muchlarger than spot 2.

4 is correctly Ypthima confusa.

Found the difference in the key provided by Uemura in his revision on Ypthima of Vietnam.

Y. confusa ;HW spot 6 much larger than spot 2.

Y. watsoni. HW spot 6 about the same size as spot 2. (similar to Y. pandocus but the ground evenly striated.)
correct image of Y. watsoni Thailand.

You are right. I just make a quick guess, pressed for time.

Sesiidae have plenty of those clear wings although the antennae are thick.

Not sure if the moth belongs in the genus Caeneressa.

On the FW vein 5 & 6 comes out together (marked by a narrow black band) before diverging out.
In Caeneressa the two veins are well apart.
The orange on the thorax also do not match.

1 & 2 ,Dodona ouida & Zemeros flegyas are right.

3. The Heliophorus can be very difficult.
The images are also much mixed up on the net.

Three species to consider. The uppersides varies in subspecies & forms.

H. epicles can be eliminated as the underside HW border protrude farther inwards in space 6.

Thx a lot. Regarding the the cabbage ones: In the field my own ID was A. rapae, but when I saw the pics, I thought I had made a silly mistake, as the apical spot seemed to continue far down the outer edge of forewing and changed to P. brassicae. But actually you can not see it well enough on the pics to judge the extent without a clear upperside pic. So the silly mistake was changing my mind... Very silly as both species are common in Denmark and I am never in doubt here :-D.
