Shot this Jay somewhere in western Singapore, not the usual place (P. Ubin) where Common Jay is found.

On the hindwing, the costal bar comes very close to the basal bar, almost touching it.

So is this jay Great or Common? :hmmm:

It does look like the Common Jay to me. Have to start comparing the other spots from all the shots that we've taken of these two species to see if there are any more diagnostic features other than that basal bar.

It is the Great Jay , Graphium eurypylus.

1. FW submarginal spots large & increasing in size towards the apex.(not so in doson)
2. FW discal spots in space 1b, & 2 close or even conjoined. (always well-separated in doson.)
3. HW discal band wider, spot 7 wide, & more than 1/3 costal width (rounded & a 1/3 or less of costal width in doson.)
4. HW black spot inside the cell near cellend a narrow bar. ( broad & often rounded in doson.)

G. doson.

Thanks for the other diagnostic features of these two species, Seow. Time to assemble another visual ID kit. :)

Up north the ssp. of G. doson have large FW submarginal spots though the discal band remains narrow.
The large black spot inside the HW cellend is also a good clue for doson.
India & China.

Wow, congrats Horace

Congrats Horace!!
Thanks, Federick and Anthony. :) Either Jay is a big surprise for that part of Singapore.
Luckily it fed at the patch in front of me for a a minute or so which allowed me to take multiple pics (at high shutter speeds) to freeze its wings.
