A far location in the Southern province of Yala, plagued by separatist terrorism, so a bit dangerous too...

http://i62.tinypic.com/2lktel1.jpg

Due to the position deeply wedged into Malaysia, the location share a lot of species with the neighbor country and always reserve interesting surprises.
Although not the best season and the area is almost 90% covered in rubber trees and not easy to find relict patches of rainforest, the promises were kept!

This was my main target, and luckily i got it, after several sightings, the last day :bsmile:

Wonderful series, including two species/subspecies not currently on the Thai list. Please let me know when your photos are up on your Flickr site.

I wish I could have come, but with the, (now aborted:cry: ), house sale, I had to be here.

I have 50% more pics, but the above pics stay on Flickr already.

Next time... We'll go to Than To too. Bungalows in the National park, very rich area.

By car from Donsak are only 6 hours to Than To and 7 to Betong.

Discophora timora. very similar to D. necho but with those yellowish patches & whiter crescent.
LC's D. necho.

Arhopala lurida. Very similar to A. atosia, but A. atosia have the markings poorly contrasted.

Post 3. Hestinalis mimetica.
Very similar to H. nama ,separated because both taxa occur in Sumatra.
HW postdiscal spots in spaces 2 , 3, & 4 more or less in line.(They form an arc in H. nama.)
In consequence the spot in space 3 is well separated from the triangular white stripe.
In H. nama the spot is very close to the triangular stripe.

Celaenorrhinus putra is right.
FW sharp, outer margin(termen) = lower margin(dorsum)
FW cell spot clear, wintout extension above radius (upper arm of the cell).
The little white streak in space 4 between the 2 big spots may be helpful.

Celaenorrhinus ladana is right.
Orange band is set higher out, ie a line along the inner margin ends at the tornus(corner).
In all non Flats , the inner margin of the band ends well in the lower margin(dorsum).

Deramas jasoda bradamante. tornal spot without orange; cilia dark, not chequered.Strongly purple-washed in ssp. jasoda.
Note. D. livens, alixae. cilia chequered; tornal orange poor.
D. nolens, nelvis. cilia chequered; tornal orange prominent.

Seow, may I ask why the subspecies name for Deramas jasoda has been resurected? All my references give the ssp. for Thailand and Malaysia as the nominate ssp. I would have thought that Eliot in C&P4 would have been aware of this, yet it is not mentioned.

I am not aware of any change.

Eliot in his revision of C&P4 in 2006 made no mention of it.
Funet also include ssp bradamante.

The Yutaka website restricts ssp. jasoda down to the north of the Malay Peninsula including Langkawi.
The two taxa do look rather different because of the strong purple-wash in jasoda.

2. This is almost certain to be P. murdava
With only 3 species P. marsena is easily discounted by its white spots.
P. stramineipennis is differently marked on the HW & its thorax hairs are lighter.

3. Halpe zema zamba.
H. zema & zola are almost identical.
The main clue is the indentation on the inner margin between veins 4 & 6, opposite the HW cell.
In zema, the notch is shallow, while in zola the notch is deeper & larger; HW outer half ?darker in zola.

H. zema. Malaya ,Selangor.

5. Curetis sperthis.
The postdiscal band is somewhat parallel to the termen.
On the HW the band is less than a third from the base.

The othe 3 species, C. bulis, santana, & felderi(palpi unspotted) have the band oblique.
On the HW the band is a third or more from the base. eg C. santana below.

6. Very difficult. Probably A. muta.
Either A. metamuta , muta or moorei.
A. muta is likely the commonest.

There is very little difference between ssp aemate & senoi.

Ssp. aemate may have the FW band a tad whiter but the HW postdiscal band is conspicuously bent at vein 5.
