Suddenly we have a bunch of interesting skippers.
I don't suppose this came from Pulau Ubin.

This should be the female Caltoris cahira.

There is a glare effect in pic 1.
In pic 2 the colour is dark chocolate brown especially on the HW. There is no reddish tint.
The upperaside shows two large cellspots.

Federich have another shot before.

A male from Thailand.

The female Caltoris bromus for comparison.

Brian in his thread correctly shot C. bromus.

just wondering, how close are you to the moth when you took its picture?

Oops again.

These skippers are confusingly very similar.

It should be a female Baoris farri.
There are a number of points which indicate it is Baoris.

1. In side view the antenna has a pale area in Caltoris while in Baoris it appears wholly black.
2. The HW has a faint pale area at the cellend not seen in Caltoris , but noticeable in Baoris especially the male.
3. The abdomen is lightly banded.
4. The underside colour do not match Federick's shot or the Thai male, in which the FW is lighter & slightly reddish.

It's a Hesperiidae butterfly (skipper), not a moth.

Dr Seow, how about this ? It is as large as that skipper Cher Hern shot and it was found at the same vicinity.
I think this is the Pelopidas assamensis (The Great Swift) (I must stress here that it is quite a large skipper - larger than P. mathias)

Thanks Dr Seow, Baoris farri farri (Bamboo Paintbrush Swift)

Oh, thank you. It looks so similar to a moth, so I mistook it for one.

Post 7.

It is the Conjoined Swift Pelopidas conjunctus.

In P. assamensis the ground colour is darker, all the spots on both wings are white; the antenna has a larger pale(usually whitish) patch.

P. conjunctus is browner; FW spots yellow; HW spots white; antenna with a small pale patch.

Butterflies have clubbed antennae, most moths don't.

Post 1.

This is the female of Baoris oceia.

I have thought it was B. farri because the male B. oceia is very dark & likewise should the female.

However, it is clearly stated in the key, the female of Baoris farri is always fully spotted.

This one has only two subapical spots instead of the full complement of three.
Pic 2 actually shows it to be quite dark.
