Dr. Seow ,

Is this a Mycalesis perseoides perseoides or a Mycalesis janardana sagittigera.??

The underwing markings look very much alike in C&P4 fig 7 and 17 respectively in Plate 16.

How does one differentiate these two ?

Mycalesis janardana sagittigera.

M. janardana is easily identified by its striated (thin stripes) ground pattern alone.
The eyespots are all of equal size.

This species is common in open areas and so is very surprising to be absent in Singapore.

TL Seow:cheers:
PS. Another example showing the finely streaked ground pattern.
