Four species of Horaga are recorded from Singapore, namely H. syrinx, onyx, albimacula & chalcedonyx.
The latter two species are readily separable by their forelegs, the tibiae which are mostly white & unbanded.

Horaga onyx is the next mostly likely to be seen after H. syrinx, but is easily confused with the latter species.

H. syrinx (syrinx = panpipe, the shape of the white mark of both wings is like the recorder flute used by the Greek God Pan.)
1. FW white mark typically narrow, upright & not strongly notched on the outside.
2. FW marginal area usually wider than that of the HW.(Sometimes about as wide.)
3. HW tornal white band often irregularly thickened, wavy, broken , shorter & does not extend pass vein 1a.

Typical male.

Horaga onyx (onyx = Greek for nail or claw, ie the appearance of the FW mark. )

1. FW white mark broad, angled inwards & strongly notched on the outer margin.)
2. HW marginal area wider than that of the FW. A very reliable feature.
3. HW tornal white band long extending pass vein 1a to inner margin; upperside level & even ; not broken or wavy.
