Tigers on the floor, on the trees, everywhere

I always find it amusing and when Danainae butterflies perch on the floor. they look very clumsy and awkward. The trimmings of Artemisia scoparia (False dill) that scattered the floor attracted a few.

for some reason, the plain tiger does not seem to be as interested in the live fresh plant as compared to the dried ones.

this dark glassy tiger was busy imbibing the alkaloids from this plant...when it literally collapsed sideways from i presume, its drunkardness?

blue glassy tiger. a common tiger was also on the floor sharing the dried twigs but did not allow for a picture. so that's 4 kinds of tigers on the floor. a party indeed.

the live fresh plant just beside also attracted a dozen or so tigers.

Artemisia, crotalaria, heliotropium contain Pyrrolizidine alkaloids that attract danainae butterflies. i read somewhere, although i cannot remember, that they use this to make themselves unpalatable. the lists of plants that contain this compound is listed in this wikipedia article, which shows the above three mentioned plants that we so often find members of the danainae family clinging on to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrrolizidine_alkaloid

elsewhere, the flowers of Syzygium zeylanicum are flowering, but the bad weather has caused almost all the flowers to brown out and wither, although still attracting quite a fair number of butts. all the flowers were too high and out of reach except for this one branch, which only these two tigers seem to be interested in.
