A record shot i took months ago but chucked away because it's such a bad picture. Everytime I see pictures of the grand imperial by antonio, i die a little inside and this time i was reminded that i did take a record shot awhile back.

is this neocheritra? or a female jacoona. i really like the 2 and have seen them a handful of times but on every occasion, fleetingly and never a chance for a photo op.

* it is a HUGE lycaenid...

It is a female Neocheritra amrita.
The black markings on the white tornal area are band-like.
In Jacoona anasuja these balck markings are discrete spots.

thanks again Dr. Seow.

I was told the males of J. anasuja have very straight sword like tails while the females have long trailing ones?

to date i have seen 4 of such large lycaenids. 3 of which have very stiff sword like tails and a blue upperside, and this 1 with long trailing tails.

all at the central catchment area, but always at tree top level except this one that came down to ground level.

The male J. anasuja do have a stiffer sword like tail.
Still, I don't know if you can tell the males apart in the field.

It is quite impossible to separate the females in the field.
