A BC blog reader from Indonesia sent me this Ypthima pic for species ID.
The mating pair looks like our Common Five Ring (Y. baldus) but with much larger spots in spaces 2-3, and spaces 5-6 on the hindwing.

Does the distribution of Y. baldus includes Indonesia? Possible look-alike species in Indonesia?

Perhaps Teo TP or Dr Seow can help. There are quite a few of these Ypthima in the region that are quite similar looking to the Singapore/Malaysian ones, but are different species. Take a look at Pisuth's book for the wide range. Indonesian Ypthimas will probably have quite a number of species not found here.

I don't think it is baldus, but it is necessary to ask from which island this pair was taken.

It was taken in Ternate (North Maluku, Indonesia). :)

I am lost here. The Moluccas (Maluku) is unknown territory.

It is OK. I will just cite the lack of relevant references in my reply. Thanks. :)

Here is a piece of luck.
In going thru funet website on Ypthima there is only one listed spp for N.Maluku including Ternate namely, Ypthima stellera sepyra Hewitson.
http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/insecta/lepidoptera/ditrysia/papilionoidea/nymphalidae/satyrinae/ypthima/index.html

The original drawing matched eg fig 10 on the right.

Thanks, Dr Seow for the speedy research! :)
Yes, the fig 10 matches rather well. I will inform the blog reader accordingly.
