My weekly futile trip to the hills for Purlisa gigantea was today.

Delighted to find, for only the second time on Samui, the Common Punchinello (Zemeros flegyas allica). The observant among you may notice that it differs from the photos occasionally shown here from Malaysia and Borneo in that the two lower white subapical spots on the Malaysian subspecies (Z. f. albipunctatus) are missing. This ssp. (allica) is found in Malaysia, but only on Langkawi Island.

Difficult to say, but I think so. It appears to be a hill species here, and I have only come across it January and, now, February on the hills above 400m.

Hello Les,

I would love to see some habitat shots of the areas that you visit. I've heard that this is a beautiful place.

Will do, though it may be a few days. Having feet problems making it difficult to walk, and I need to sort this out quickly before my trip to the S. Cardamom Mtns in Cambodia in 2 weeks time.
