Went on an impromptu trip with LC to the rustic town of Gopeng, kampar and the refreshing
cool mountain range on Cameron Highlands for some butt actions last week.

The elements was kind enough not to blast us with hazy skies. Weather was not as perfect though,
we were blessed with morning sunshine followed by gloomy and rainy weather in the afternoons on
most days. Butt activity was not that abundant but we managed to fulfill some of our targets. :)

Thanks LC for being a very hospitable host.

Here we go......

I guess the one that we saw in Cameron is not Archduke but the male of this female Tanaecia julii bougainvillei.

Lovely photos, guys. Is Gopeng the place where there are often large numbers of Rajah Brookes Birdwings?

Wow, LC, a Gliding Gecko! Maybe Ptychozoon horsfieldii? I would love to see one of those. Was it on a tree? It looks like it would be hard to spot when on something natural. "Snakes and Other Reptiles of Borneo" lists this species so maybe there is a chance on the June trip? I hope so.

David,
Yes, there are many hot springs there. Rajah Brookes are attracted to it. Could be the sulphur.

Now I know it is a Cliding Gecko. It was at the kitchen wall eating flying insects at night. :bsmile:

LC, the Branded Yamfly that we shot could either be a Yasoda pita dohertyi or Yasoda pitane laruta. Both are so similiar.:hmmm:
According to C & P 4, the Y. pita occurs from Burma to Sundaland while the Y. pitane is known only from Malaya and Sumatra.

Is this a Delias ?

http://www.pbase.com/lcgoh/image/129834723.jpg

Yes it is. It is Delias baracasa dives. Unfortunately, this is one of the very few Delias species where it is next to impossible to see whether it is male or female from the underside alone, if one can not see the abdomen. In this species both sexes have the same amount of black dusting, which is usually the easiest way to determine the sexes of species in this Genus.

Congratulations on nailing this one, it usually stays high up in the canopy, and I only have one, very long distance photo of it.:jumjoy:

Nelson, wonderful series again. I was wondering when we would see the Cameron Highland species.

With regards to the two photos you are not sure about, firstly, do not think it is Iton semamora, it is! The second one is a malformed Autumn Leaf.

If I may highjack the thread a tiny bit, I am adding the female Heliophorus ila malaya to complete the series, and to show what you need to look for next time you are in the Camerons, or Genting Highlands. Only the upperside, as the underside is the same as the male. (taken a couple of years ago)

From the Casino bus stop, head downhill 100-200 metres, on the righthand side, just past a small 'shrine' I seem to recall. Also, if there, look for some montane Udara species.

The 'Record shot' is Elymnias patna hanitchi. The marginal spots appear much larger than the subspecies found further north, interesting!

Hi to everyone.
I thought I could help in clearing the doubts.

The Catapaecilma is C. major emas. The fact that it is a male with a straight termen ( outer margin ) is sufficient to id it. The male of C. lila have the forewing termen convex. ( Note in male, the abdominal tip is truncated : in female the tip is tapered to a point.) Additional clues are the width of the "empty" space between the discal and postdiscal spots compared to the submarginal area ( muchwider in C. lila ) and the larger tornal black spot on the hindwing.
The Yosoda is Y. pita dohertyi. In Y. pita the hindwing is slightly toothed at vein 3 and the margin between vein 3 and the long tail is marked with a black and a silvery line. In Y. pitane the hindwing is not toothed and the said margin is orange with a silvery trace.
The large rounded spots on the E. patna is an artefact. I believed it is due to an overwhelmed antishake at extreme telephoto range.
