Butts sighted during the weekend:

Brand imperial (it kept returning to this shoot which had many small ants on it – its larval associates?)

A rather larger than usual bush brown.

Cruiser with slightly damaged/folded right hind wing.

Tailed jay. With several cruisers, this was puddling on the edge of the canal flowing out of the swamp forest.

Only got upperside of this Rapala(?) at Sg Buloh.

That is a Rapala all right. Could be a suffusa female from the upperside. But these lookalikes require shots of the upper and underside to help narrow down the IDs.

And btw, thanks for spotting the Pierrot typo in the book. Alicia told me.. :)

I'd say this one is closer to a Long Brand Bush Brown due to the more prominent range of forewing ocelli.

But these buggers are highly variable and the only way to be very sure is to look at the brand and hair pencil on the overlaps between the fore- and hindwings. (That means the poor fella will be dead on a lab bench to be able do so). ;P
