Thanks to LC's kind hospitality in showing me around his stomping grounds , and also Kurt and Derrick for the company.

Weather was a repeat of Fraser's on Saturday, overcast and little BF activities over at Lentang Forest Reserve .

Sunday finally brought some much welcome sun and we were fairly rewarded at Sungei Tua.

Here's sharing some shots from the two days :

This guy made our day, a very co-operative Peacock that posed for us on a small stream and open its upper fully twice for us.

If only all the browns are as beautiful as these Cyclops, LC and me encountered at least two species beside a jungle track.

Nice PS work! Should hold a workshop soon! :grin2: Them Banded Peacocks seem to be in season.

That Saturn somehow doesn't look like one. You have other shots of it?

What a killer banded peacock! The greens of the upperside is very majestic, a striking diagonal perch to add to the composition. You've nailed a perfect shot!

The last UFO skipper is Pithauria marsena

The fella with blue upperside and white tip is Dark Blue Jungle Glory. Not any new species.

Where is your Thaumantis noureddin noureddin (The Dark Jungle Glory) ? Hope the ID is correct.
Mine is too blur and I forgot to lower down the ISO and causing all the noise. haha

Excellent, Sunny and LC! Very nice finds and photos. As the others have stated, the Banded Peacock was superb. They are just dazzling butterflies. I enjoyed all of the others as well and there were a few here that I don't recall seeing photos of before.

Do you have any habitat shots? I always like to see the sort of habitat where you found these lovely butterflies.

Regards,
David

David ,

Generally most butterflies are found along rivers which act as a highway for the fast flying species , except for the puddlers which often congregate at the river banks ,the rest are deep shade lovers in the thick undergrowth adjacent to these river.

Looks like one of the Coelites sp.

Possibly, but I note that there are both discal and postdiscal bands on both wings. I am not aware that Coelites species have both.

The hindwing postdiscal band is also irregular, which, to me, does suggest a Lethe sp, but which one, I have no idea! (Well, actually, I do, but I'll wait a bit before making the suggestion in print!)

LC Goh:

I studied the photo you took of one of your group taking a photo from a tree. I noticed his pant legs. They have what appears to be a tick guard at the end. We have ticks and some of them are tiny; they are called deer ticks and if bitten you can become infected with a very debilitating disease called "Lyme Disease."

Do you have similar insect issues in Singapore? Also, there are some places where you need to be very careful where you walk or climb, because of snakes. This is especially true for for rattlesnakes and and coral snakes which are poisonous. Is that an issue in Singapore?

Will,

I am not aware of such ticks but our minds were aiming for the butterfly on the tree. :bsmile: So far, I have not heard of such ticks yet. Probably no one has reported it. We have leeches here for sure, tone of them.

There are snakes here, all of us need to be careful when going in to the woods or climbing tree. Some of them are very poisonous just like rettlesnake.

Btw, this place is in KL, Malaysia. I am not sure about Singapore, maybe Sunny can answer you.

Thank for your advice.

William,

In the Malaysian jungle there are lots of leeches in the raining season. The green and white garments around the shoes are leech socks (http://users.wired.net.au/susan/leeches.htm) to keep them from boring through the loose weaves of normal socks. At a pinch , a cheap pair of $1 lady's nylon stockings would work equally well.:)

We have not seen a leech in Singapore for years, perhaps there's not enough wild boar population to sustain them.

Most snakes would have scooted long before you see them . Rarely you see them, unless it is cornered or sick. ..... walk like an elephant and most snakes would have gotten off your way.:bsmile:

The only insect issue I can think of in Singapore forest reserve is just mosquitoes , even then they are relatively few except at Sungei Buloh WetLand Reserves.
