Thanks to LC, Kurt, Derrick & Dennis for the hospitality provided to myself, Ellen and Marcus over the weekend at KL. :thank_you

Had a great time with a group of avid photographers trailing and sprawling through the forest pursuing subjects
that flies, moves and even those that prefer to remain stationary.

On with the pics, any assistance in verifying the IDs of the butts would be greatly appreciated.:)

What a wonderful series, Nelson, thank you.

Just a few IDs for you:
The Striped Palm King is actually a Koh-I-Noor (Amathuxidia amythaon dilucida)
The skippers are both, I think, Pithuria marsena.
The last Lycaenid is Chliaria othona semanga (Orchid Tit). This is a much more striking subspecies than the one I have up here.
The other Lycaenid could be, and I can not be certain of this, Plautella cossaea sonchus. It is the closest I can find, though there are a few spots that do not match, but they can be variable.

That's the problem with using English Common Names I suppose. Was that name taken from some book, Nelson?

The last shot of the "Saturn" is the other species, Zeuxidia doubledayi doubledayi due to its more falcate and sharper forewing.

Good series of the rarer Morphinae.

LC ,

Your Tanaecia looks quite close to a Tanaecia aruna aruna I shot here (http://www.butterflycircle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10121) , except where circled. However this could be due to wear and tear, as the left wing show the same area clearer.

Cheers!

There should be more pics coming from the rest of the expedition team to KL. :grin2:

Thanks Khew for assisting in the IDs, I got the english name from the Borneo book as the pic in there is similiar to the one that was taken. :embrass:

Not to worry. But I'd avoid using too many of the names from the Borneo book as the Jap author seems to have invented quite a bit of his own names, even though the common names are already available in C&P4. Take a look at what he calls the Dark Blue Jungle Glory! ;P

Nice collection, esp the Morphinae.:grin2:
The last shot of the 1st set can't be an Amathusia(they have stripey versos), more likely a Zeuxidia sp.
