Just managed to process a few shots , the rest will have to be later.....

We left early at 7:00 to joined the Jam at the Johore end of the causeway and the other Jam at the Bakooteh restaurant .....it was a crowd .

Bunker Trial has been widen and repair to fairy good condition .....for once I can drive and spot BFs at the same time , instead of looking out and avoiding pot holes and boulders ! The birders from Singapore were out in full force by the time we entered the trail.

Very few puddlers on the newly resurfaced trail , other than the Studded Sergeant all the rest were shot at the 7th km Base Camp.

Was startled by this girl when she took flight , she is huge... really huge , but not as huge as a dinner plate lah......haha!

Nearly mistaken this as another day flying moth....it's beautiful BF !! ....quite a sight of 1 gal 3 guys running around the bushes chasing this beauty around ...

Pachliopta neptunus neptunus (Yellow Bodied Clubtail)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d156/Schir/1DMK3----1212---19_06_2010.jpg

Finally shot myself a Studded Sergeant , he was fighting with ""Khew"" on the middle of the road ...for a puddling spot.

Oooo... nice collection from Bunker Trail as always... This time don't have that Laringa sp?

That Yellow Bodied Clubtail's been seen near the base camp several times. The last time I encountered it, it was trying to lay eggs, so the host plant's in there. You shot the female, which has more white on the forewings.

Saw the RBB?

Wow! What a fruitful day you had. Some very interesting butts you managed to shoot.

Cher Hern, a couple of ID revisions required:
Your Little Maplet is what Sunny has, Zemeros emesoides emesoides.

The :hmmm: is a female Plush, Sithon nedymond nedymond, Nelson has the male.

I think your Palm Bob is actually the Small-spot Palm Bob, Suastus minutus flemingi.

Nelson, the first skipper is, I believe, Zographetus satwa, though it looks a little bit faded.

I dare not suggest what the Lycaenid is, too many look alikes. Hopefully someone will be able to give us an ID.

Sunny, your shots of the Great Saturn and Clubtail are:thumbsup:   .

ellen, perhaps you want to do a comparison of the UFO this time with the UFO you previously shot in sg? the pattern look similar although the yellow part is much smaller on this... :hmmm:

butterfly_effect
21-Jun-2010, 01:14 AM
Keyang, this UFO is definitely not virgulatus... by appearances. But since I don't have upperside shot plus I have no recollection of it either, the id is anyone's guess.

21-Jun-2010, 01:31 AM
The upperside of the above UFO posted by Ellen is blue. Did not managed to get the upperside shot
but from the pic below, you can roughly see the blue color. :)

The Blue Ellen and Nelson shot were from a trail which I visited a number of times and found Jamides caeruleus caeruleus (Sky Blue).

I saw a few of them(BF) when I was with Ellen and Nelson and told them they were Sky Blue from the distinctive darker blue upper and then went off to investigate something else on the track. Unfortunately the only copy that was willing to perch for them was a this rather worn specimen.

Looking closely on the forewing striae and in particular at the hindwing space 7 2nd stria and the 3rd stria from the base of the cell it is quite likely that this is a resident Sky Blue of that trail.

The ID key for J. caeuleus states that : Underside hindwing with the second white stria from the base in space 7 in line with the third stria from the base of the cell, or at least nearer to this stria than to the second cell stria. This key was discussed in depth in a private thread during the investigation into the Jamides elpis pseudelpis (Glistening Caerulean )

The striae on the fore and hind wings and the tornal yellow can be quite variable on this species.

Here is a comparison of two Sky Blues from the checklist with the UFO

Cher Hern,

The Little Maplet is Zemeros emesoides emesoides

The Slate Flash is more likely a worn out Suffused Flash (http://butterflycircle.com/checklist2/index.php?page=butt_details&butt_id=276)

thanks for pointing that one out! :) we were not lucky. Cher hern spotted them and managed to lower the branch they were on before unker sunny got them on a good perch. So it was cher hern who was extremely fortunate and we all benefited from it. Thanks cher hern! ^_^

Very beautiful looking butterfly, not to mention the very proud perch and the undistracting background. I cant help but notice that mossy patch on the leaf, did the butt stick out its proboscis to "feed" on it?
