During the Easter Weekend, I was in KL to meetup with LC and one of his shooting khaki, Dennis, for some day trips to Fraser's Hill, Bukit Tinggi and a two other places. As usual LC had been very welcoming and I had a good time during my stay there. Food was amazing as Dennis was able to recommend fantastic eating places with very reasonable prices.
Thanks LC and Dennis for the great hospitality and added weight(Too much good food).
Here are some shots taken during the trip. Do feel free to correct and assist in the IDs.
Doleschallia bisaltide pratipa.
Arhopala major major.
Unkana batara ambasa.
Dacalana vidura azyada. (orange patch does not obliterate black stria above.) Choaspes subcaudatus crawfurdi.(parallel black spots & marks prominent & set well apart.)
(Correction :should be Choaspes stigmatus caudatus)
TL Seow
PS. The Choaspes is far more difficult than I realised, especially with the vital ID segment torn off.
Although the black bar is folded under some blackness should be noticeable, and the naked vein is mostly orange.(black bar large in C. subcaudatus.)
The inner margin of the orange area is curved & not straight as in C. subcaudatus.(not always curved in C. stigmata though.)
Choaspes stigmatus caudatus is the correct name for what is previously C. plateni caudatus. (C. plateni has been shown to be a different species.) http://yutaka.it-n.jp/hes/90300020.html
As always, your shots in this series are excellent. The Tailed Judy was very nice. Looks like you guys had a great time and found lots of interesting species.
Where did you find the Choaspes subcaudatus? I have seen large skippers like this along the Telekom Loop at Fraser's Hill but never have been able to take a photo.
