How about a worn out Flos apidanus saturatus?

I had wondered about that, as that species is found here, but it was the subbasal silver markings that worried me.
Quite close to Mahathala ameria, chk out yr book
Again, I had looked at that, but the hind wing shape of Mahathala sp. ( deeply incurved at the costal margin) ruled that out to me. However, on checking my specimen of Mahathala ariadeva, I now suspect that this is the correct ID. (shame, not another +1 for Samui!)

Yes, I noticed the incurved hindwing illustrated in the book but couldn't really differentiate that from your photo, I even used photoshop to manipulate the photo hopping I can see the curve but no success, so I only state as quite close.
Good that you manage to confirm the id
