    1. Male Potanthus serina.

    Abdominal end with a prominent black band.
    FW spot 5 smaller than spot 4.
    HW often with a small spot 6 at inner corner of band.
    Field shots & variation can make Idying rather confusing.

    FW subapical spot may be much reduced.
    This make it confusingly similar to P. juno, but the HW upper spot of band is rectangular ,not rounded.

    P. juno is very similar.
    FW spot 5 smaller than spot 4.
    FW subapical spot 8 absent or vestigial.
    HW upper spot of band rounded.

    P. mingo is more heaviliy dark shaded & FW spots 4 & 5 are equal.

    The other 3 species P. omaha, ganda & confucius have the abdominal ends yellow, althpugh the female have some dark shadings.
