2 Catochrysops for ID

1. C. panormus?
The FW costal spot (very faded) is not so near to the band as in other specimens I have seen but the HW marginal spots looks pointed.

2. C.strabo?

Both are Catochrysops strabo.

The two can sometimes be very similar.


Catochrysops panormus.
Male upperside clear blue with the veins white.
FW costal spot close to the postdiscal band.
Submarginal spots tend to be chevrons (V-shaped), that on the HW arching high.
FW with the margin clear, not sullied by the marginal spots which are often weak.

Catochrysops strabo.
Male upperside purplish blue with the veins obscure.
FW costal spot about midway between the postdiscal band & the cellend bar, but variable.
Submarginal spots have more level margins ,so they form more regular bands especially on the FW.
FW marginal area often sullied by the diffuse marginal spots.

The faded male on the right is fairly typical, the female atypical (possibly hybrid) .
