    1. Female Telicota besta bina. Correction : Probably T. augias female.
    Note the 2nd shot shows the black hole in the FW cell typical of the female.
    The Cellend bars are one long (2X) & the lower one short.

    2. Female Potanthus omaha.
    Note duller colour & veins lightly dark dusted.


    3. Female Telicota besta.
    Note cellend bars, one long & one short.



    Telicota females can be quite diificult.

    They can be divided into three group.


    A. Female with FW cellend bars ,with the upper about twice as long as the lower.

    Telicota augias.
    The female can be confused with T. besta female but is more orange & HW band of similar orange tone as the ground colour.

    Female underside HW veins are lightly dark
    FW spots 4 & 5 aligned.
    HW ground colour slightly duskier than the band.

    B. Female upperside FW cellend bars both short, though the upper is still longer.

    Telicota linna.
    The female have the veins not darkened on the HW underside.
    Underparts more strongly pale.

    C. FW cellend bars both long.

    Telicota bambusae.
    Female cellend bars long.
    FW spots 2 & 3 rather broad.
    Underside HW veins not dark dusted.

    Potanthus ganda & omaha can be easily confused.

    P. ganda veins not dark dusted or lightly so.
    More orangey & ground shading darker.

    P. omaha.
    Dull ochreous yellow .
    Veins lightly dark dusted on both surface.
    Ground lightly shaded.
    Females.

    ID Correction.


    1 is far more likely to be Telicota augias female.

    The HW underside is more uniformly orange & the HW band does not contrast with ground colour.
    The thoracic hair are nearly as orange as the wings.
    The FW band is narrower in the female T. augias, ie spots 2 & 3 are narrower than in the female T. besta.. Compare the upperside FW band.
