    Request ID help for the below species sighted in Singapore.

    1 & 2 Caltoris cormasa.

    Plain skippers are particularly hard to ID because the great variaton in colou r in photos.

    The 4 similar species in Singapore. may be grouped thus.


    FW with the spots yellowish.

    1. C. cormasa; UnH deeper, darker than UnF, often with a noticeable red brown tone.
    FW subapical spots 3 ( -2) . BY far the commonest species.

    2. Caltoris malaya. UnF & UnH nearly equal in colouration. FW without cellspot.
    FW subapical spots 2 ( -1 ). Male underside rusty brown, female ochreous.

    FW with whitish spots.

    Caltoris bromus ; UnF & UnH colour nearly equal. FW subapical spots 2 ( -3 )
    Female UnH may 1-2 spots in space 2 & 3.

    Caltoris cahira; UnH darker than UnF. Subapical spot 2 ( -3 ).

    3. Jamides celeno. By far the commonest.

    3 species similar with UnF straight postdiscal band.

    J. celeno HW striae variably arraned, sometimes chaotic ; HW tornal spots with short silvery bars . UpF black border broader.

    J. pura; UnH striae often well-arranged ;tornal black spot with twin long silvery bars. UpF black border very narrow.

    J. malaccanus.UnH with all striae of equal lenght & forming 3 complete bands inside of the submarginal spots.
