    Default ID request for Mycalesis

    Dear Dr. Seow,

Please provide id keys to differentiate between Mycalesis gotama and M. orseis. Mycalesis gotama is quite common in certain parts of this region and I was wondering if by any chance I got M. orseis too, since the location of the spots in these two species looks very similar.

Sharing some of the photos I have of M gotama (probably).

The three are Mycalesis gotama charaka.

    Mycalesis gotama charaka.
Fw typically with spot 2 big on both wings.
FW spot 3 almost always absent, rarely if present, poorly formed.
Submarginal band wide nearly 3X that of the marginal band & the inner margin broadly dentate or crenate.
HW sub-basal dark line usually more deeply indented in the upper half.

    Mycalesis orseis nautilus.
FW & HW with a full complement of spots; spot 2 not particularly large.
FW & HW spot 3 always present.
Submarginal band narrower, about 1.5 that of the marginal band, its margin sharply serrated.
FW white discal band often dentate on its upper half outer margin.
