They are all correct as stated.

4is Potanthus mingo.

Of the species in which the abdominal end is black-banded.

1. P. trachala; Spots spiky; FW spots 4 & 5 do not overlap above & below (not the spikes).

2. P. serina; FW spot 5 smaller than spot 4; UnH band with a small spot 6 at upper inner corner ;ground orangey.

3. P. juno: FW spot 5 smaller than spot 4; subapical spot 8 absent or vestigial.

P. mingo; FW spot 4 & 5 with partial overlap, variable; Spot 4 & 5 equal ;HW margins of band concave , usually heavily dark edged/spotted.

Hi Dr Seow,

Thanks for the IDs, but was just wondering if there’s any chance the Potanthus could be a serina? As the sighting was from Dairy Farm Nature Park in Singapore and from what I understand P. mingo isn’t on our national checklist yet.

No. In P. serina FW spot 5 is smaller than spot 4 (often by 1/2 in the male)
You can compare the 2nd pic (spot 4 & 5 equal) with the P. serina male in the link given.
P. serina is a larger skipper. Here is another example.

P. mingo is one of those less well known Potanthus because they all look alike.
There are several photos identifiable as mingo
I think it is not that rare but routinely labelled as omaha.
