    Default ID Help Dr Seow

    I shot this skipper in Pulau Ubin in Mar 2017. I'm confused which species it is as there are a few skippers that has no marking on the underside of the hind wings. Please help.

    Male Caltoris cormasa.

    The Caltoris can be confusing since much depend on the colouration.


    1. Caltoris cormasa: Rusty red brown underside ; UnF spots yellowish; usually 3 subapicals.
    Male, female.

    2. Caltoris malaya.: Underside rusty brown, male ; ochreous brown in female. FW short, spots yellowish; subapicals usually two; antennal pale area poor.

    3. Caltoris bromus.Underside dark brown with ochreous overlay ; UnF spots white, subapicals usually two ;female often with 1- 2 spots in HW space 2 & 3.

    4. Caltoris cahira :UnH dark chocolate brown ; UnF spots white, subapical usually two.

    5. Caltoris philippina: Underside with greenish ochreous scales ; FW longer & sharper in male, spots yellowish.

    Female : Note FW has no cellspot.

    The Baoris can be rather similar :FW more sinuous in shape; antennae pale area weak ;Male with a pale mark on HW cellend corresponding to the hair-tuft on the upperside.
