Posting this for interest. At Nam Nao NP, n Thailand last week were a good number of Charaxes species puddling. This one individual, while clearly a Charaxes athamas was strikingly different in size to all the other Charaxes athamas present. Image attached of comparative size. The butterfly on the right could be either Charaxes athamas or A. arja. However, the generally minute size of this individual was very apparent. In many years of photographing butterflies in Thailand I never come across such a small individual. These two butterflies are exactly the same distance from the camera.
