I'll try to make this a little less dull, by posting some of the more handsome moths.
Need IDs for all of them. Thank's in advance.



I have a dorsal shot for this moth, just in case the angle's not appropriate for ID-ing. Do tell me If you need it.








This one should be from the Pterophoridae family. First time seeing one in black.

!st is likely a male Cyclosia macularia.
There is no other possible match seen.
The FW spots are variable & can be very obscure.

I can only add the families for 2,4 & 5. No. 3 remains beyond me.

2 is a Notodontid.
4 & 5 are both Crambidae (Pyraloidea)

I have checked my few resources on these families and failed to get any further. Sorry!

It is a great help if you can even get it down to family level.

No. 5 a ?male, matches this fat female from Fraser's Hill in wingshape & position of all the spots.
It is given as a Pachynoa species, but this is doubtful as other known Pachynoa species are quite different.

No. 2 is probably Eupydna testacea.
Note FW tip dark & a series of dark submarginal spots.

The 4th is Leucinodes orbonalis, a widespread species from Africa to Australia, & an agricultural pest on brinjal/eggplants.

Thank you Dr. Seow and Dr. Les for attempting and confirming their IDs!
Tracing them down to their families is good enough! I had no clue of what species they were, and where they came from.

The 3rd one is Hydrillodes lentalis , Noctuidae, widespread from India to Australia.

This one should be from the Pterophoridae family. First time seeing one in black.

This one is very similar to Nippoptilia vitis. Tentative ID Nippoptilia cf vitis.
Its specific name vitis suggest its larva feeds on grape.
The similar features are.
1. Similar wingshape & dark colour eg images 4, 9, 10, & 11.
2. Thorax with back portion sharply demarcated & pale-coloured.
3. Abdomen with a whitish mid cross-band & pale marks above it.
