    Default Maliau Basin moths

To start the thread, here are the Sphingidae I came across. If anyone has other Hawkmoths, please advise, before I send my list to Ian Kitching in London.

    1) Ambulyx canescens
    2) Ambulyx moorei
    3) Ambulyx substrigilis (note that this is the usual form, not f. cana as shown from Danum Valley last year)
    4) Daphnusa ocellaris
    5) Theretra latreillii
    6) Smerinthulus quadripunctatus cottoni - CORRECTION, newly described species, Smerinthulus laurae (Brechlin 2014)

A few IDs for LC, well, as close as I can get! Positive of Genus, less so of species!

    #5 - Hypopyra lactipex (Noctuidae)
#6 - Trabala sp. indet (Lasiocampidae)
    #7 - Theretra latreillii (Sphingidae)
#8 - Plutodes sp. either P. argentilauta or P. malaysiana (Geometridae)

    David, I have IDs, I think, for #1 & #3. Still working on 2, 4 & 5!

#1) Eudocima cocalus (Noctuidae) - Apparently uncommon.
    #3) Artena inversa (Noctuidae)

Also, LC, here is ID for #1. Glyphodes caesalis (Crambidae). I did not think I would find this, but I had actually managed photos of this before here on Samui, and found its ID.

Here is another Eudocima species, again, according to Holloway, not found very often, Eudocima discrepens. The two silver forewing marks, and green patches are distinctive of the male of the species.
