An earlier shot which I also put down as a male Rapala manea.

I would agree both are Rapala manea.
Interestingly both have the orange crown narrow as in R. varuna.
In the past many forms were posted making it rather confusing.

Some probably have gene introgression (crossing) from R. varuna.

Thanks Dr Seow! Here's the upperside of the individual shot in post #1. Interesting upperside that shows the deep indigo blue only at certain angles when the light shines on it. The borders are largely black.
