An aberrant Ypthina baldus?
From Phu Suan Sai NP, north Thailand this week. Evergreen forest edge at 950 metres altitude.
The first two images show upper and under side of a Ypthima sp that does not show any ocelli on the hindwing.
The second two images show a typical Ypthina baldus (my assumption) at the same locality. This specimen (showing 5-6 ocelli) was typical of all the Ypthia baldus there at the time.
The specimen without the ocelli looked somewhat smaller than the other Ypthima baldus in the area, and I was wondering if this could be something different. There are not many images on the web showing baldus without ocelli. This individual was somewhat smaller than the other baldus in the area. Or more likely, is this just some dry season variation?
Comments appreciated.
